General Information

 

Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan is the largest operating institution under the Bureau of Corrections, in terms of land holdings which operates its rehabilitation programs, (education, sports & recreation, religious & work programs).

 

Location: Puerto Princesa City, Palawan

Establishment: November 16, 1904 under Section 1709 of the Revised Administrative Code

There were a total of 13 admissions, 10 of which were first offenders and 3 recidivists. There were 3 escape incidents with 2 retrievals. A total of 100 inmates were released on the same period (49 Parole, 50 Expiration of Sentence; and 1 others).

 

 

Rehabilitation Programs

 

Health Care. There were 3,561 consultations, 218 admissions and 49 referrals. The 3 most prevalent diseases are PTB (405 cases), UTRI (383 cases), & Gastritis (193 cases). Death in custody quantifies to 23 with only 1 unnatural death.

 

Education and Skills Training. There are 23 inmates enrolled in the elementary program, Alternative Learning System and Non-Formal education.
