General Information

 

Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro offers horticulture, aside from the non-formal education, work programs in agro-industrial production.

From January to June 2008, there were 5 admissions. There were 6 reported escapes and 1 retrieval. A total of 74 inmates were released. A total of 30 inmates have been involved in disciplinary action wherein 26 of them were charged administratively, while 3 were criminally charged.

 

 

Rehabilitation Programs

 

Health Care. 1,061 inmates have undergone consultations of which 80 inmates were admitted, 143 for dental treatment, 1 for outside referral and 6 cases of death. The causes of death were: Koch’s Pneumonia (2), PTB (1), Congestive Heart Disease (1), Epilepsy (1) and Dead on arrival due to gunshot wounds (1). The most prevalent diseases diagnosed and treated were Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) 216 cases, Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) 115 cases and Gastritis 115 cases.

 

Education and Skills Training. Presently enrolled in the elementary are 188 inmates, 28 of which have graduated and 50 were enrolled in non-formal applied training.

 

Sports & Recreation. Number of inmates involved in sports activities: Volleyball (108), Basketball (200), Badminton/Table Tennis (106), Scrabble/Domino/Chess (275), Daily Sunning (100), Film Viewing (40), Dance Troupe (18) and others (138).

 

Work Programs. A total of 1,241 inmates are under the inmate work program of which 27 inmates are orderlies receiving their compensation amounting to P17,700.00, 448 inmates are under the Agro-project. 766 inmates are under the Utility (including the para-liturgical activities).
