General Information

 

San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga del Norte offers work, education and on-the-job training programs. Also sports and spiritual enhancement programs are given.

 

Location: Zamboanga City

Establishment: August 21, 1869 under Section 1720 of the Revised Administrative Code.

There were a total of 216 admissions, 64 of which were first offenders, 1 transferred from Davao Prison and Penal Farm and 151 transferred from New Bilibid Prison. There were 4 escapes recorded, and 1 retrieval from previous year’s escape. A total of 49 inmates were released from January to June (24 Parole, 17 Expiration of Sentence; 1 Acquittal and 7 transfers). There were 30 inmates involved in various violations of prison rules; 18 were charged administratively while 3 were criminally charged.

 

 

Rehabilitation Programs

 

Health Care. There are a total of 1,937 consultations, 22 of which were admitted; 19 minor surgical operations; 6 X-ray examinations; 71 laboratory examinations; 28 dental treatments and 10 referrals. 5 natural deaths were registered. The most prevalent diseases are: Hypertension (57); Vitamin B Deficiency (109); All kinds of Wounds (135); Diarrhea (68); Dermatitis/Allergies (76).

 

Education and Skills Training. SY 07-08 shows that 16 out of 49 enrollees graduated from Adult Literacy Program; 37 out of 50 enrollees, graduated from Vocational Course, 49 out of 75 enrollees graduated from Applied Training Course, and 72 inmates are presently enrolled for the SY 08-09.

 

Sports & Recreation. Inmates engaged in various sports activities to include: basketball, volleyball, chess, scrabble, domino, dama, billiard, and etc.

 

Religious Activities. 204 religious services were conducted where 1,680 inmates and 1,820 civilians participated; 395 inmates have undergone religious guidance; 155 Formation Services were also conducted, 1,250 inmates and 1,720 civilians attended the activities.

 

Work Programs. Fruit production (Mango); Horticulture (Cassava, Tapioca) and others (Coconut Lumber, Cattle, Pig/piglets, Hollow Blocks, Handicraft (various furniture), firewood, Rice Hull; Income from private ventures (like Sand & Gravel, Water, Fuel Assistance, Mango spraying, rental of tractor).
